Having realised that I may not be able to blog on January 1st I have decided to open up the Bloscars a few days early.

So ladies and gentleman of blogland I give you...

The 3rd Annual Bloscars!
2008: A Blog Odyssey

You now have until January 31st 2008 (23:59:59 to be precise) to get in your nominations. Remember you can nominate three people per award and these are not the final winners this is just to determine the five finalists who will be announced on February 1st.

To nominate you can download any of the forms below them email that form to me at bloscars(a)gmail.com. Or you can email me there and request a form and I'll send one back in a reply but it may take a while - remember my internet access isn't fantastic!

Both of them are Excel files, one compatible with Excel 97, so download it, fill it in and email it back. Remember you can nominate THREE people per award apart from Moira's award. you can only nominate ONE person. If you fill in the space three times I'll ignore the second and third.

Talking of Moira's award, I've merged this with the Inspirational Award. Another thing to note with these awards is that you cannot nominate someone who has won it in the last ten years which means you cannot nominate LyndLJ or Moira for this award. As deserving as they were and still are I'm sure you can find someone to fit the award.

As before there will be prizes. At the moment they stand at a Pro Account (or free year if you're already a pro), a key ring and a certificate.

So people, let it begin. Nominate away!

To help you, here is a list of the awards and a short description.

Laziest Blogger
You should nominate the blogger who you feel has been the laziest. Either by only ever blogging something they've cut and pasted, something that takes no effort, or the fact that they blog maybe once or twice a week/month.

Best Profile Tags
Look at a bloggers profile tags. Who has the best? Nominate them!

Best Profile Picture
Nearly everyone has a profile picture. Who has the best? Is it the best because it's actually them and is a good quality picture or is a good picture because it's interesting and different?

Funniest Blog/Blogger
Who makes you laugh? Which blog has you really LOLing?

Best Photographic Blog
There are quiet a few good photographic blogs out there so which ones have you looking? Don't think it has to be a photograph only blog, it can be a personal blog as well but maybe the person is a photographer and blogs the occasional picture.

Most Artistic Blog
Who has the most artisitic blog? This is different to the above award. It encompasses everything.

Best Blog Design
Who has the best blog design?

Best Video Blogger
Which blogger/blog posts the best You Tube or Google Video clips?

Best Blog Commenter
Who leaves the best comments? Either inspirational or funny?

Best News Blog
Which blog has the best news stories or keeps a debate going?

Best Story Blog
Which blog tells the best story?

Best Off-Site Blog/Website
To qualify for this award the blog or web site must be connected to a blogger or blog. For example Dean Christopher and I have sites that hold photo's, many members use Flickr, Paul Boyd has his productions web site and his personal blog. As long as there is a link back to blog then they are eligible.

Most Helpful Blog/Blogger
Which blogger helps you the most? Which blog gives you help?

Best Male Newcomer
To be eligible for this award the male blogger must have joined at some point after February 1st 2007. Check their profile to see when they joined.

Best Female Newcomer
To be eligible for the award the female blogger must have joined at some point after February 1st 2007. Check their profile to see when they joined.

Blogger You'd Like To Know Personally
Of all the bloggers which one would you like to know outside of blog?

Best Female Blogger
For any reason, who is the best female blogger?

Best Male Blogger
For any reason, who is the best male blogger?

Best Blog
Which blog, for any reason, is the best blog?

The Moira Smith Forget-Me-Not Award
Which blogger has been the most inspirational? Which blogger has overcome something? Which blogger has entertained you? This award can be given to any blogger who you feel really deserves it so think carefully about this award.

It's just over a week until all the final categories are announced.

Here's how the Bloscars 2008 are going to go... (I hope!)

January 1st
I'll announce each of the different categories and how bloggers qualify for each award. Now this doesn't mean I'm deciding who is up for each award it's just that there are few changes to awards and how to vote and who can be up for each award and I feel the new categories need a bit of an explanation.

Nominations will be open until January 31st (23:59:59 to be precise) and as usual you'll be able to nominate three people for each award apart from one.

February 1st
Voting starts!

I'll announce the five people up for each award and you have four weeks to vote for one person in each category, apart from one.

February 28th
20:00
Voting closes!
Any votes that come in after this won't be counted.

21:00
Each award will be announced one at at time in this blog in an order pre-defined and announced some time during February.

So, if anyone has any questions, well now is the time to ask them... while I have a guaranteed internet connection!

Below are the current Bloscars categories. You'll see some of them have gone from last years awards and there is currently two new catagoeis - Best Newcomer and Best Off-Site Blog. I'll explain more about how bloggers qualify to be nominated for those two catagories when all the catagories are confimred but now it's over to you.

Hopefully Paddy doesn't mind me gatecrashing (hey, you made me co-writer...)

First off the personal bit, thank you to everyone who voted and I truly am delighted to have won what I did, it means a lot to me.

Congrats to all the winners (if my maths are correct Juzzy is now a pro until sometime in the next century...) you all deserved it.

And now a little video... it's not Speilberg but it's the content rather than the design that's important...

PS, now he's watched it I had one other I couldn't fit in cause I got it last night, promised them I'd put it up:

If I was going to describe Paddy in one word it would be selfless. Yes he's witty, intelligent, a great ranter, a great reasoner but I would choose selfless because he gives so much of himself to other bloggers and has done as much as anyone to turn blog co uk into a community, not just another blog hoster. Well done Paddy.

The Moira Smith Forget-Me-Not Award

Ladies and Gentleman,

When we came up with the Moira Smith award I never once thought it would be won by this person. When the first nomination came in my thoughts were "Yes, that's right," but I honestly didn't expect to see many more nominations for this person.

Oh how wrong could I have been? It's a rhetorical question Juzzzy, no need to answer!

The winner is someone who undoubtedly deserves it. She was an inspiration to her readers, to her family and to her friends and this aptly names awards shows that her readers will do just that... they will never forget her.
